Workshop Exploring Shame
The Practice Rooms Islington N19RD
Saturday 19th July 10am to 5pm
A 1-day workshop that will explore shame as an emotional and physiological response to a dysregulating other. We will examine with exercises:
What is shame
What triggers feelings of shame
Shame as an habitual response
What purpose does shame serve
The ingredients for dealing with shame
The goal of this workshop is to gain a deeper understanding of the breadth and impact shame can have, and how it can become chronic and integrated into the body as an emotion to avoid. We will examine recovery from shame, and how feeling shame is not an essential part of life. There will be space to explore the nature of a life without shame.
There will be opportunities for individual and group reflection on all aspects of shame, how it can reside in the body, how shame is learnt as a response, and how to protect against shame. Looking at shame can be challenging.
Facilitator: Richard Dennison, BSc, MA, Dip.Gestalt therapy and Group work. I have long been interested in shame having suffered from chronic shame. I am now researching shame in my PhD at University of York
